Sustainability

Our commitment to you, our communities and the planet

We know sustainability is important to you—it’s important to us too.

Our linemen, engineers, support staff and customer service representatives live right here in Kansas and Missouri. We're not just Evergy employees. We're Evergy customers, too. And like you, we want a bright future for the next generations.

That's why we're committed to making smart investments in renewable technologies, so we can deliver reliable energy both now--and in the years to come--at an affordable cost.

Generating power that's cleaner, more affordable and more reliable than ever before—that’s our vision for a sustainable energy future.

Since 2005, our generation mix has become more diverse and now nearly half of the electricity we generate comes from carbon-free sources.

Looking forward and innovating now

  • We are committed to meeting the evolving energy needs of our customers and communities.
  • Providing sustainable energy has always been important to us. And because it’s even more important to you now, it’s an even bigger part of our plans.
  • Evergy is steadily moving towards our goal of reaching net-zero carbon emissions by 2045.*
  • The electricity we create with our generation facilities contribute the most to our emissions. As we continue to add renewables, while maintaining reliability and affordability, we expect to continue progressing towards our goals.

Chart showing the growth of renewable energy over time

We're celebrating over 100 million megawatt-hours of wind generation

Did you know one wind turbine can produce up to 3,000 kilowatts per hour? That can power Kauffman Stadium for just over nine minutes, KCI airport for just over four minutes and several customer's homes for a couple months.

Utilizing and generating wind creates a cleaner environment and offers our communities a more sustainable and affordable energy option. With over 274 wind turbines in our energy mix, we're making progress towards our 2045 goal.

Environmental Commitment

When it comes to our environmental impact, we're making strides every day to support a diverse energy mix, reduce emissions, lessen water usage and so much more.

Learn About Our Environmental Impact

* Evergy's net-zero goal includes scope 1 and scope 2 emissions. The trajectory and timing of reaching our net-zero goals depend on many external factors, including enabling technology developments, the reliability of the power grid, availability of transmission capacity, supportive energy policies and regulations, and other factors. These external factors are outside of Evergy’s control, and without these enabling factors, we cannot be certain about the achievement of Evergy’s long-term emissions-reduction goals.
